According to the Avant Guide Institute's Daniel Levine, a renowned trend expert, two of the top trends for 2017 are:

1. green and natural

2. heritage and craftsmanship.

Here at C & S Refinishing and Upholstery, we are "on trend" already! Furniture repair and refinishing/reupholstery is the best way to keep furniture out of landfills--the ultimate act of reduce-reuse-recycle. And we pride ourselves on our long history of craftsmanship within our industry.

In a recent Elledecor.com article on design trends, global trend ambassador/creative director of carpenter + company, Patti Carpenter states that 2017 will be the year of "Artisanal instead of DIY." She explains that "You'll see craftsmanship and materials that require you to have a high level of skill to work with them emerge...you'll see the return of glass blowing, porcelain, and even amazing woodworking--not just raw big chunks of recycled wood." We've never been prouder of our amazing team of artisans who hand-cane, upholster, repair, rebuild, and refinish treasured pieces for our customers.

But what about specific design trends for 2017?

According to the Pinterest 100 for 2017, top materials will be marble and copper. The top color will be navy blue. And Farmhouse style will be the most popular decorating style.

www.Zillow.com/digs reports that jewel tone colors like navy, earthy green, rich purples & reds will be popular. Also, velvet will be the "it" fabric of the year. Steampunk, "a unique hybrid of Victorian-inspired elegance boasting rich leather and plush fabrics, combined with machine-like accents for a modern twist" will gain in popularity.

Elledecor.com agrees that velvet fabrics and jewel tones will be trending, especially navy which "is the new black."

Additionally, expect to see mixed patterns and faux finishes.

Bone or raw white accent pieces will be a striking contrast against the jewel tones, as will buttery yellow touches.

White painted furniture and grey will stay around, but expect the greys to be stronger and less "griege" than in the past.

Pantone announced the 2017 color of the year, which is a fresh green called "Greenery". This green can be used as a neutral, and will refresh and rejuvenate home decor.
